Let the music flow

Posted on December 21, 2012

Today is, supposedly, the end of the world according to the Mayans.
To celebrate, we present you our latest iOS app called MusicFlow. We’ve taken our previous AirMusic app to the next level.

With MusicFlow, you can now stream anything playing on your device to an Xbox or Smart TV. YES, you can now stream Spotify, Pandora, the free music from your Free Music favorite downloaders. Heck, even DRM protected content such as Audiobooks can play on your big fancy speakers now!

Merry Xmas everyone. Enjoy!
You can find more info about MusicFlow here.

    Hi

    Great app!

I have an ipad and a dlna wdtv live. But musicflow does not recognize the wdtv live mediaplayer.

The wdtv live is working on my home network with other ipad apps however.

Musicfow does recognize my samsung tv and i can stream spotify to the samsung tv.

    Do you have a solution?

    Thanks!

    Marcel

    Sylvain,

First of all great job on the app. I was looking HARD for something that would allow me to stream spotify to my sound system through my dlna Sony bravia TV. Luckily I found your app, just days after its release. It’s the first app I’ve ever paid for and that’s because as far as I know it’s the only app in existence that can do this. For me it has about an 8 second delay, but I think that’s just inherent in the dlna technology since every other dlna app I’ve used is the same way. So congrats, and don’t worry about the idiots making bad reviews in the App Store. You should start the app description with “THINGS THIS APP WILL NOT DO” LOL.

Now for the actual question. I want to be able to open this app from another app, so could you tell me what the URL scheme is for the app?

Also if you could make a dlna beaming app for video that functions in the same way as music flow, it will be one of the greatest achievements in the history of mankind, and I will consider rewarding you with my first born child.

    Richard

Ahaha. That was great. Thank you for the feedback. Good idea about updating the app description.
Unfortunately for video, the video code AirPlay is using is not a DLNA format that is supported by all devices. Thus a conversion would be required and might be too CPU intensive for the phone. Will definitely let you know if we can make it work. ;-)

I would also like to thank you for the great idea. However, I was not able to run the app on my ps3. The app didn’t find the device. Is it even possible to do so?

Unfortunately, the PS3 is not supported as stated in the description of the app.

  7. Sylvain,

I am posting a bug report here because I didn’t find any e-mail address to you,

First, I have been looking for a long time for a solution to stream Spotify and Wimp via UPnP and I was delighted to find MusicFlow last week!

I asked a couple of people to test it for a couple of days before I sent out a newsletter to our dealer network.

It works great and I sent out an e-mail to all our dealers yesterday, but we have discovered a few possible bugs, which I would like to bring your attention to.

    1. If I connect three different UPnP renderers (Naim HDX, Arcam AVR360 and Pro-Ject Stream Box) to the network, then MusicFlow can only display the iPad and (up to) two of the connected renderers. These two can be any of the three in any combination. I have duplicated this problem several times.

    2. One of our dealers reported the following: He connected two UPnP renderers (e.g. Naim NDX and Naim UnitiQute) He selected the Naim NDX, but the audio from MusicFlow was directed to the other rendered in the system, Naim UnitiQute. I will try to duplicate this problem later this week.

We also have a request. It would be very useful if the volume control could be disabled. When using MusicFlow in a system with mixed UPnP renderers it’s easy to forget the volume control and when accidentally hitting it some products can rush up to full volume which can come as a bit of a surprise.

But regardless of the bugs we have found, it’s a great app, which we are recommending to all our partners in the industry!

We have asked a wider group of people to test it further before we go out and recommending it to the public at our websites and in our UPnP training documents. But we are confident that it’s a solid app that is finally solving the Spotify over UPnP that everyone has been looking for for years.

Bought the app. It does not support neither Sonos nor Raumfeld which both has standard DLNA renderer. Pitty. Please advice if we can expect those devices supported in future? Many thanks

I thought I’d like this App because I Have purchased air music, but my Panasonic TV didn’t find the device like air music does. I wish it had a on switch so it will send a signal to my tv like air music does. Is there any way You could tell me how to fix my issue?

Hallo, I just installed your app Musicflow. It does do what younclaim and that is great. It does stream music to my WDTVlive and my Samsun TV. But, every 10 to 20 seconds or so, it stops playing for a second or so. What can i do to improve? Now the app is useless, otherwise I would rank it 5 stars

Sonos claims to be DLNA compatible but last time I checked they didn’t support LPCM as an input. Has it changed?

It doesn’t work like AirMusic. Your TV must be a UPnP DLNA Renderer. Then it will show up in the list of devices on the phone to which you can stream to.

Your wireless network is probably too slow. Either upgrade. Try without any wireless encryption. Make sure you’re close to your router and even better have your receiving devices connected with ethernet.

I’m enjoying musicflow streaming from Qobuz .com a 16 bit music streaming website to my Naim uniti2 and was wondering if musicflow can send Flac files at 16 bit , Naim reads it is receiving the music at 705kbit not the full 16 bit
Many thanks for a fab app

If Qobuz is already high quality, music flow will not degrade the sound. It sends PCM data to your NAIM unit.
Flac will not improve quality. Qobuz outputs PCM to AirPlay (hopefully uncompressed).

    Dear Sylvain,

I was used to listen to Qobuz from IPad 2 and Iphone 5, on my Project StreamBox DS Net; it was fine (actually, Bravo, since the concept is really unique in the app world), but after the recent updating of IOS, it happens that is not working anymore, if not for few tracks and very very rarely. Is it a problem of updating Music Flow or is my network at home (I have an ADSL line that allow me to liens to Qobuz FLAC quality service and except for the IOS machines connected with WIFI, the router and the StreamBox are connected with ethernet cable), or some error of settings that I don’t know?
    Many thanks for your attention,

    Giovanni

Musicflow would be perfect to stream my itunes-library and spotify to my renderer t+a Caruso. Unfortunately it does not work: I see the Caruso in the devicelist in musicflow, I can choose it but there comes no sound?!
    You habe an idea?

    (I use an iphone 6)

Hi. I just purcased musicflow and the app intstantly found my upnp device. When i then opened spotify to stream musik i had no problem finding the upnp device in spotify. Then… When i hit the upnp device i want to stream to it holds for a about 10 sec, then it jups back to phone and starts playing. I just cant Get it to play on the upnp device from my iphone. Is it not compatative with iOS 8 or higher?
(Sorry for my bad inglish. I hope you understand what i mean)

Hi, Just bought you app and it just works with my cheap Volumio based rendered (that supports both AirPlay and DNLA – so can’t tell which method is being used). However when I try it on my Moon rendered (which is only DNLA) it finds the device but does not play any music.

How do I make this work?
